*2024/08/09 20:39 Yomiuri Shimbun At around 7:57 pm on the 9th, an earthquake occurred with its epicenter in western Kanagawa Prefecture, and a seismic intensity of 5 lower was observed in Atsugi City and other areas of the prefecture. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter was estimated to be about 10 kilometers deep, and the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.3. There was no tsunami caused by this earthquake. An agency official said, “It is outside the expected epicenter of the Nankai Trough earthquake,” and it is not thought to be directly related to the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that occurred in the Hyuga-Nada Sea. Don’t forget about the Sagami Trough. The Japan Trench, Sagami Trough, and Nankai Trough are all connected. Incidentally, trenches and troughs are landforms formed when oceanic plates sink beneath continental plates. A trench is when it is 6,000 meters deep, and a trough is when it is less than that.
