As record-breaking heatwaves continue across the country even after the rainy season ends, pachinko parlors are promoting the idea of ”coolness.” In response to this extreme heat, the All Japan Amusement Business Cooperative Association has created posters showing places to take shelter in the extreme heat. The message is, “On hot days, feel free to come and cool off at your nearest pachinko parlor!”, promoting the idea that people can cool off in air-conditioned pachinko parlors. In light of the recent cases of elderly people being taken to hospital with heatstroke, the government is calling on pachinko parlors across the country to cooperate in an initiative to offer their parlors as “heatwave evacuation sites.” There are four types of posters available, including designs of the official mascot character “Pachiro” and a polar bear.
