Shohei Ohtani and Judge
As Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani (30) and Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (32) are once again enjoying historic seasons, a debate is brewing over “who is better, Ohtani or Judge?” On the 27th (28th Japan time) on the MLB Network program “MLB Now,” MLB analysts Steve Phillips and “Mad Dog” Christopher Russo had a heated debate on the topic of “Which season would be better: Ohtani’s chances of a 50-50 season or Judge’s chances of hitting 60 home runs?” “I think for me it’s the judges,” Russo said. “His batting average (.333) is better than Ohtani’s (.292), and he’s doing it without a strong lineup that includes (Freddie) Freeman and (Mookie) Betts,” he emphasized. “Ohtani is having a great year, but I’m not that crazy about the base stealing. Willie Mays could have stolen 50 bases a thousand times if he wanted to, and Judge also plays outfield. They’ll both be MVPs, but I think Judge is having the better season.” Phillips countered, “I’ve never seen anyone do 50-50.” “I’ve seen five guys hit over 60 home runs in the past. We’ve never seen what Ohtani is doing (50-50). With that in mind, I see Ohtani as more unique, more special and more productive. You overlooked the 50 stolen bases, but a single became a double and a double became a triple, and I don’t think that should be underestimated in terms of contributions to the team. “There’s a chance that the number of stolen bases could even exceed the difference of 12 to 13 home runs,” he said, giving the edge to Ohtani. One thing the two men agreed on in the debate was that the outcome for both Ohtani and Judge would depend on how they performed in the postseason. The one who gets the World Series championship ring is the winner.

Ichiro stole 56 bases. Yes, that’s a rebuttal.

50 home runs seems tough.

Isn’t the pace now 50-51?
0006Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:47:15.90ID:5vXgCvqB0(1/8)
If you look at it as a war, the judges won by a landslide, but 50-50 is by far the most unprecedented score.
0007Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:47:20.41ID:fn1Bx5Fa0
Ohtani hasn’t been on defense this season, so the judges would be better.

The judge’s dwar (defensive war) is currently -0.4
Considering the outfield adjustment, an average regular player is better.

50:50.

The one thing the two men agreed on in the debate was that the outcome for both Ohtani and Judge depends on how they perform in the postseason. The one who gets the World Series championship ring is the winner. In the end, it’s probably these two who think this most.

I know stealing bases is great, but a home run is better
The reaction when you successfully steal a base or when you hit a home run
Which reaction is more joyful?

If you compare 60 home runs and 60 stolen bases, you get 60 home runs, so that’s true, but if you compare 60 and 50-50, isn’t it the latter?
As for the current comparison between Judge and Ohtani, I think Judge is better because his on-base percentage (far surpasses his batting average) is overwhelming, other than the home runs that are being discussed here.

Even judges are not popular at all in America.

In terms of recognition, voice, and presence, they are far inferior to top NFL and NBA players.

A few years ago, ESPN released a ranking of their favorite players, but not a single active MLB player made the top 50.

As a sport, baseball is fairly popular across the US, but unlike basketball, individual popularity is thoroughly weak.

Even in college sports, American football and basketball are overwhelmingly popular, and baseball is quite obscure and in the shadows.

That’s Judge.

That’s a bit of a stretch.

I don’t like either of them because they’re weak when it comes to opportunities. A clutch hitter like Matsui deserves to be MVP.
0020Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:51:26.29ID:fjaNexJj0
I wouldn’t argue if the judges say Ohtani is better because their batting averages are three points apart, but if he had eight wins as a pitcher, Ohtani would be the winner.
0022Security guard [lv.48].Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:51:50.91ID:qxDmk6130
50 50 15 wins would be no complaint.
0024Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:53:01.79ID:/kcxCxxH0
He’s a pitcher who just had Tommy John surgery. Normally it would be a year off.
0025Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:53:17.69ID:utnlMiwi0
Ohtani isn’t a two-way player, he’s just a DH, so he’s probably about 0.7-way.
0026Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:53:30.47ID:u+bsKBWy0
Yeah…is that going to be a debate?
0028Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:53:55.91ID:nTXORW8E0
The judges are amazing, but Bonds couldn’t do a 50/50 score below Bonds.

Bonds was outstanding only in his peak year of 2001
but if you look at the years after that, Judge is better.
0030Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:54:08.48ID:uh5YwAir0
I think you can see 60 but not 5050 yet.
I think if you can get to 4545 you can hope for 5050.
0031Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:54:21.17ID:7HS85K0S0(1/2)
Judge’s Yankee Stadium is small so it’s easier to get home runs, right? Can you compare them?
0047Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:57:05.27ID:6hyF47aA0

Yeah, but if you say that, Dodger Stadium is easier to get into.
0032Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:54:25.29ID:D/SRBvez0
It’s pretty much the same.
0033Anonymous @I’m sorry.Aug. 28, 2024 (Wed) 11:54:41.24ID:otOkT1N00
If only he hadn’t dropped his batting average and kept his chances of winning the triple crown high. It’s a shame that he had a few no-hitters in July and August.

That’s right.
Rather than 60 home runs, I want him to achieve 15 wins as a pitcher, a 2.0 ERA, and 40 home runs.

There are different stadiums and conditions, so it’s hard to compare.
