An “electric board” that can be driven while seated, does not require a license, can reach a top speed of 20km h and is expected to be used for deliveries and sales.
Future (Tokyo), a manufacturer and seller of electrically assisted bicycles, has released the Future Board 2, an electric board that can be ridden without a license. Since it can be driven while remaining seated, it is expected to be used for deliveries, sales, and other purposes. “Futureboard 2” can be driven while sitting.
It is classified as a “specified small motorized bicycle” (specified moped), a new category created by last year’s amendment to the Road Traffic Act, and can run on roads and bicycle paths at a maximum speed of 20 km/h. Anyone over the age of 16 can drive without a license. Prices start from 437,800 yen (tax included), and the maximum range is 200 kilometers. It is designed as a motorcycle type that can be driven while sitting, making it possible to perform tasks such as delivering packages, which are difficult to do with the stand-up electric kick scooters that are popular among certain mopeds. It will also be offered as a sharing service, where the vehicles can be rented out for a fee. “The vehicle can be used practically for sales, deliveries, commuting to work or school, and more,” CEO Keiko Ihara said at a press conference on the 28th. It can be purchased from dealers nationwide or online. Yomiuri Shimbun 2024/08/29 19:47.
>>1 I like the cool design, it looks like a moped scooter It’s a great deal to be able to ride it faceless I guess it will be treated the same as bicycles though.
>>1 This will inevitably become a social problem with frequent accidents and hit-and-runs. If people were to look into why such things were allowed and investigate, the names of politicians would come up, right? Rather than having things like this, keeping 50cc mopeds that require a license would mean less work for police officers and ambulances.
They are basically treated the same as mopeds, but they don’t make two-stage right turns, they drive on the sidewalk, and they seem to be driving while drunk at night, so they do whatever they want.
An accident at 10km/h may not seem like a big deal, but fatal accidents do happen. And both men and women are likely to ride in shorts and sandals and without helmets.
