Groping a woman on the train… Officer disciplined for stealing equipment as well
On the 29th, Saitama Prefectural Police announced that a male officer (33) from the Urawa Nishi Police Station Traffic Division had been given a three-month suspension as disciplinary punishment for groping a woman on a train and stealing equipment from within the police station. On the same day, the prefectural police sent the officer to the Saitama District Public Prosecutors Office on suspicion of violating the prefectural nuisance prevention ordinance (groping) and theft. The officer resigned voluntarily on the same day. According to the prefectural police inspector’s office and other sources, the officer groped the body of a teenage female vocational school student living in the prefecture on a JR Takasaki Line train traveling within the prefecture between 7:20 and 7:40 p.m. on April 19, and also stole 30 rolls of camera film (worth approximately 9,200 yen) from a warehouse at Urawa Nishi Police Station where he was working late at night on July 4. During questioning about the molestation, it was also discovered that he had been stealing film. The officer had repeatedly stolen film since June last year, totalling around 430 rolls. He sold 360 of them on a flea market app, earning about 330,000 yen. Regarding the molestation, the officer said, “I was drunk and don’t remember, but I might be the culprit,” and regarding the theft, he said, “I stole the items to sell because I was struggling to make ends meet.” Saitama Shimbun 2024/08/30.
>>1 It’s indecent assault and theft. It’s not a suspension or voluntary retirement, it’s a criminal punishment. Isn’t it a prison sentence without suspension? Why not?
I’d like to ask someone who really knows about this, if a major sash manufacturing factory goes bust because of the typhoon, will that mean less work for small and medium-sized toilet manufacturing factories in the area? Will they go bust?
> “I found out that the camera film I found in the warehouse was being sold at high prices online.” “I was struggling financially so I stole it to sell.” Silver halide camera film? The kind that you don’t use anymore? Or maybe the police are so old-fashioned that they have some standard use for it.
