Saitama City’s “After-school Children’s Place Project” recruits after-school care staff who “take responsibility for children’s lives” through a “part-time job app,” with no CV submission or interview required.
The job posting on the “part-time job app” was for a childcare facility that takes responsibility for children’s lives. A parent with children said, “As a parent, it makes me very worried.” ◼After-school “childcare” staff wanted through part-time job app
The “After-school Children’s Place Project” implemented by Saitama City in April 2024 is causing controversy. It uses vacant classrooms and schoolyards at elementary schools to provide a place for children to hang out after school. The private company that was entrusted with this project recruited staff through a “part-time job app,” which allows people to work short-term in their spare time. This is a job posting that was actually posted on the app. The daily wage is 4,700 yen. The job description states, “Watch over children’s safety.” Applications began on July 22nd during the summer vacation period. As of August 1, a total of 17 people had been hired. The issue of part-time work in childcare facilities was also debated in the city council. Saitama City Council Member Ikeda Megumi: The first thing that scares me is how easily people can get into work that involves children. The city needs to check this thoroughly. “After-school child support workers” who protect children’s safety require qualifications, but Saitama City explains that since the people being recruited this time were “assistants,” they did not ask about whether they had qualifications. When hiring, instead of requiring candidates to submit resumes or go through interviews, the company required them to sign a pledge regarding the handling of personal information. Parents have expressed concerns about hiring childcare staff through an app. Woman in her 40s: I’m worried about teachers changing so often. It is reassuring to have the same teacher look after your child for a long time, as they can get to know your child better. Woman in her 40s: I’m really worried. I’m concerned about the psychological state of my child. Since I’m leaving my child there for a long time, I want to leave him somewhere I can trust, so I will transfer him to another nursery school once I find out that the app has been adopted. >>1 One of the reasons for the declining birthrate is that people don’t dislike children, but they don’t want to be with them 24 hours a day. It’s better to work a black job than to be with your children, and the same goes for the reasons why you have to turn off the tap when caring for the elderly. The negative effects of the nuclear family that became popular after the war are really becoming more apparent. So, could it be that the left wing is the one who promoted this trend towards nuclear families? Have they done it again?
>>7 It would be nice if we could choose between Shochiku and Ume after-school care. But putting taxes on Ume would be putting the cart before the horse.
>>14 I think so. Isn’t 1 really that bad? That’s all I can think. Everyone is so quick to say things like “secure the numbers” or “hire babysitters.” That’s what they mean. There’s a manpower shortage everywhere, so there’s no way that many capable people can gather so conveniently.
Raising the hiring bar leads to a sense of responsibility, but what idiots are there in Saitama Prefecture? The civil servant who thought of this should be fired. The law should be changed so that civil servants can be fired too.
Even teachers have had plenty of sexual assault cases, so it doesn’t matter who it is. If you’re that worried, don’t leave your kids with complete strangers in the first place.

Yahoo! Comments >I saw a Timee job posting and went to help out at an after-school program. No qualifications. There was a male assistant who also joined Timee, in his 50s, who had a strange air about him and hardly spoke to either the staff or the children. The assistant’s duties were to watch over the children while they played and clean up, but I was also asked to accompany children to the toilet, which I felt was somewhat dangerous because it meant going one-on-one with the children. Because it is temporary, it is difficult to know fully what kind of people will be interacting with the children and you cannot take responsibility for them, so I think it is better to refrain from using it. I’m worried that malicious people might sneak in.
Working moms (lol) leave all the childcare to others, but are against part-time work at after-school daycare. They leave it all to low-paid part-timers without paying them much.

>>38 I guess it’s ok for the father to raise them.
It’s impossible to get stable full-time employment in after-school care due to the working hours, and there are no takers. If you’re going to take care of children’s lives, you have to pay them about 2000 yen an hour.
