The final of Euro 2024 took place, with Spain and England facing off.
Spain had the familiar lineup of Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Ramin Yamal, and Nico Williams. Pedri was absent, with Dani Olmo playing as attacking midfielder. England also had Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Phil Foden in the lineup, with Declan Rice and Kobe Maynoo in midfield. Luke Shaw and Bukayo Saka were at wingback.
From the beginning, both teams tried to take the initiative and went on the offensive. Spain kept the ball concentrated on Nico on the left wing, waiting for an opportunity. In the 12th minute, Nico made a move and shot, but John Stones brilliantly blocked it. In the 13th minute, Robin Le Normand took a bicycle kick from a corner kick, but the shot went wide.
Just before the end of the first half, Foden volleyed from a set piece, but it was straight at goalkeeper Unai Simon. Both teams showed focused defence, finishing the first half scoreless. At halftime, Spain replaced Rodri, who was suspected to be injured, with Zubimendi.
Then, the game started to move early in the second half. Yamal dribbled from the right wing to the centre and made a final pass to the left wing. Niko fired a low shot directly with his left foot into the right of the goal. Spain’s young wing duo finally got the game going with the dynamism of their two players.
Soon after, Olmo had a chance to score in the penalty box after receiving a shot-like pass from Niko, but his left-footed turnaround shot missed the target. In the 55th minute, Morata broke through and finished with a through pass from Yamal. However, the ball went wide to the left of the goal and was cleared by Stones.
In the 61st minute, England replaced Kane with Ollie Watkins, who scored a goal in the semi-finals. In the 64th minute, Bellingham fired a powerful mid-range shot, but it went wide to the left of the goal. In the 66th minute, Yamal broke through on the right wing and finished with his left foot. He aimed for the left side of the goal, but Pickford made a big save to keep it out. Morata, who had been showing great dedication, dropped back and was replaced by Mikel Oyarzabal. Meanwhile, England also brought on Cole Palmer to go for the win.
Then, in the 73rd minute, England tied the score. Saka dribbled down the right wing and passed the ball into the middle, where Bellingham took a one-touch pass. Palmer then smashed it in with a low, left-footed mid-range shot. The ball sank into the left side of the goal, tying the score for England. For the second game in a row, manager Gareth Southgate’s tactics were spot on.
In the 82nd minute, Nico and Olmo connected in the narrow central space, and the final shot was Yamal. His left-footed shot was on target, but Pickford saved it. However, in the 86th minute, Spain showed some brilliant passing. Oyarzabal made a direct pass down the field to Cucurella on the left. He sent a direct cross, and Oyarzabal again connected with it, and Spain took a step forward. In the 90th minute, Rice connected with it from a corner kick, but Simon made a good save. Guey pushed the rebound, but Olmo headed it away.
In the end, Spain won 2-1. Since 2012, they have been crowned European champions for the fourth time, the most in history.

I was just watching the Euro final
Everyone in soccer these days is too fast
Their movements are too one-dimensional and mechanical
Of course the game itself was really exciting 🔥
As the sport itself matures
Everyone becomes one-dimensional, or rather, their individuality disappears…
It’s sad 🥺

Kubo is seriously good at the top level in La Liga, but
even if there are teammates pushing up from behind,
they connect and the whole team is delayed.
I think it would be a big change if he could release the ball faster.
I guess he’s confident in his own play.
Individuality is a good thing, but then you want scoring power and other levels.

Up until now, teams that have made it to the finals of two consecutive Euros have either won or not won.
The Soviet Union in 1960 and 1964, West Germany in 1972, 1976 and 1980, Germany in 1992 and 1996, and Spain in 2008 and 2012 (Spain was the first to win consecutively).
It’s also crazy that England has been the first to come second in two consecutive tournaments.
In the World Cup, the Netherlands in 1974 and 1978, and West Germany in 1982 and 1986 were runners-up in two consecutive tournaments, but West Germany won in 1990.

Germany has come a long way in just 8 months.
I think Nagelsmann will rebuild the team while trying out the young players.
The young players aren’t bad either.

European football tends to emphasize speed, but Spain’s passes are versatile and can pass through small gaps in the block at any time and with the receiver’s discretion. The first goal was also a flick pass from Carvajal to Yamar, which was sliced with the outside of the goal and passed through the gap between the defenders.

That’s definitely not the case
But I do feel that the level of European soccer has risen because of Japan
It’s become even faster, more mechanical, and less interesting.
