Economy Matsuya to raise regular-sized “Beef Bowl” from 400 yen to 430 yen， and introduce late-night rates， with an additional 7％ charge from 10 p．m． to 5 a．m．

Starting tomorrow, Matsuya, a beef bowl chain, will raise the price of its “regular-sized beef bowl” by 30 yen. A late-night surcharge will also be fully implemented.
According to Matsuya Foods, the price hike will take place from 3pm tomorrow, and will affect approximately 40 items. A regular-sized “beef bowl” will go up from 400 yen to 430 yen, and the “beef yakiniku set meal” will go up from 790 yen to 840 yen.
The increase is said to be in response to rising raw material prices and rising utility costs due to the weak yen.
Starting tomorrow night, the chain will also fully implement a “late-night charge.” In one metropolis and six prefectures in the Kanto region, an additional 7% or so will be added to the price of products between 10pm and 5am.
The aim is to pass on the higher labor costs during the late-night hours to the price, and a trial introduction was made at some stores in May of this year.
The “late-night charge” is spreading, with Sukiya introducing it in April of this year.
