Nvidia-backed Japanese company considering building new AI data center near nuclear power plant
(Bloomberg) — A Japanese cloud gaming service company backed by U.S. semiconductor giant Nvidia has begun considering acquiring land to build a new data center for artificial intelligence (AI). The condition is whether there is a nuclear power plant nearby. Generation AI requires huge amounts of electricity, so it needs to be built near the power source to minimize power loss during transmission. CEO Guo said that nuclear power is “the most efficient, cheap, stable source of electricity and suitable for AI.”

So, when an earthquake disaster occurs, the netizens and media start bashing things after the fact, and then regret it, as usual, right?
If they want to claim that it’s so safe, they should have just built it in Tokyo or Kanagawa.

Your electricity bill won’t change even if you live near a nuclear power plant. However, power companies with a high proportion of nuclear power generation do indeed have lower rates.
