A survey conducted by the Central Council of Workers’ Welfare on the 13th revealed that nearly half of people who have used loan-type scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization to go to university or other programs feel that repaying the loans is affecting their “daily meals.” Nearly 40% of people said that it was affecting their visits to medical institutions. The council is calling for a reasonable repayment system based on income and an expansion of relief systems. An online survey regarding the burden of educational expenses was conducted in June, with 3,000 people responding. Of these, 657 people who were using the organization’s loan-based scholarships were asked about the impact on their life plans. Around 40% of respondents said that repayment was affecting their “marriage,” “childbirth,” and “child-rearing.” For each item, the percentage of people who said it was affecting them increased from the previous survey in 2022. The average total amount of scholarships received was 3,449,000 yen. In terms of repayment status, 60.3% were currently repaying, 13.1% were using the repayment deferral system, and 3.3% were in arrears. By age, less than 30% of people between 40 and 45 years old had finished repaying their loans. November 13, 2024 05:44 Kyodo News.

No, you got a scholarship and had fun when you were a student, right? Regardless of whether it was your parents or yourself, even if you say it’s hard to pay it back after you get a job, it’s your own fault for not putting in the effort to get into a company that pays well.

Financial planning should be a required unit for first-year students.
How many thousands of yen will you borrow, how much will you spend on your university life, and what kind of household finances will allow you to repay it reasonably after your first or second year of working life, assuming your starting salary.
