First children have higher IQs than their siblings

breaking news

A 2015 study by the University of Leipzig found that intelligence slightly declines with later birth order, though no significant differences were found in personality traits. The study analyzed around 20,000 people across three countries, focusing on families with up to four siblings.

A paper published in 2015 by researchers from the University of Leipzig in Germany and elsewhere, titled “Examining the effects of birth order on personality,” is a research report that investigated differences in intelligence and personality based on birth order. The study looked at data from a total of approximately 20,000 people from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and conducted a detailed analysis of differences based on birth order in IQ as well as major personality traits (extraversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness). The analysis was limited to families with four or fewer siblings and excluded twins. This is because twins are a special case and normal birth order effects may be different. Additionally, families with five or more siblings were excluded because they made up less than 11% of the total sample and therefore make reliable analysis difficult. The results of the analysis confirmed that, as in previous studies, intelligence tends to decline the later the birth order. The difference is about one-tenth of a standard deviation. Furthermore, there was a tendency for self-assessment of “intellectual ability” to decrease the later the birth order. This trend remained even when actual intelligence test results were taken into account. However, no significant differences were found in other personality traits based on birth order. Similar results were obtained when the analysis was restricted to cases where the age difference between siblings was 1.5 to 5 years. Read more on itmedianews 2024/11/18.

It’s probably the age difference.
The younger the mother, the higher the IQ.

It reminded me of the novel “Honest Soldiers” by Shiroyama Saburo
A woman with an academic complex marries a man with a high IQ through an arranged marriage and has a son, but he has an IQ similar to his mother
Even so, she gives him a thorough gifted education, but due to a miscalculation, it turns out that the second son, born a year apart, has inherited his father’s high intelligence
The mother is obsessed with her eldest son, but the second son, who has been left to his own devices, gradually begins to show his talent…That’s the story.

Isn’t 1/10 of the standard deviation the margin of error?

They also did this on Professor Sandel’s show. The vast majority of Harvard students are first-children. This was explained as being due to differences in parental expectations. According to American statistics, athletes and criminal offenders are more likely to have second or subsequent children.

The one-child policy was right

Then we have the super-super aging population
The best way to fix the super-super aging population is to send the elderly to war.

The one in the middle was the one who studied the best, the youngest was the outgoing and easy to get along with, and I, the eldest, was the cunning one.

That’s true. Maybe it’s because I feel like the younger kids are generally better at sports.

If you say it’s acquired, then I guess that makes sense.

It’s not that the parents are young, but rather that the older siblings are forced to take care of their younger siblings, and the younger siblings do everything for them without thinking about it.

>As with previous research, we found that IQ tends to decrease the later in birth order.

What does this mean?
Two siblings a>b
Four siblings w>x>y>z
Does this mean b>y>z?
In other words, the more fertile a country is, the more people with low IQ.
