Japan’s Digitalization Struggles: Why Sticking to Analog is Holding Us Back

hobby

Japan lags in digitalization, hindered by analog practices and low AI adoption. The solution may lie in charging for analog support to push adaptation.

Japan is far behind other countries in terms of digitalization and will continue to remain an analog nation. This is evident in people coming to work during the pandemic just to stamp documents, and adopting analogue approaches to accommodate the elderly. In addition, the usage rate of generated AI has recently been significantly lower than in other countries, and many people are being deceived by scams. The root cause of these problems stems from “not being good at IT.” There is likely to be a lot of backlash, but personally I think we should stop making social considerations for people who are not good at using digital technology, and make it so that those who cannot adapt to it are at a disadvantage. Specifically, all analog support will become chargeable. Unless we go that far, digitalization cannot be realized. I would like to provide a logical explanation. In many cases, people who say they are “not good at IT” don’t mean that they “want to do it because it’s too much trouble” but rather that they “want to do it but can’t because they lack the skills.” Especially the elderly…

Well…yeah…
But it’s not right to keep using systems with crappy UI and crappy specifications.

That’s right, you should get into the habit of researching things yourself, even if it’s just for your own use.

The delay in strengthening digital security is worse than the delay in digitalization, or rather the sloppy nature of it. Is Japan intentionally being sloppy with security? That’s what makes me hesitate.

We can’t hope for no control when we can create nuclear and BC weapons that can destroy humanity many times over.

For now, high school graduates should be allowed to take the university entrance exams when they become elderly. Those who fail to get into even the lowest tier schools are put to death.

It’s fine to keep it on analog, but of course it’s an extra cost and effort, so there’s an extra charge. For example, at a family restaurant, even though there are tablets, you still have to call a waiter to order.

The subject “Information” will become compulsory in high schools in 2022.
“Information” will be added to the common test next spring, and most national and public universities will have 6 subjects and 8 subjects worth 1000 points for information.
The generation that has received programming education is finally making their debut into society.

Being good at IT and not bad at it means you’re familiar with networks, protocols, operating systems, programming languages, etc. Surely it doesn’t mean being able to use SNS apps on your smartphone?

On the other hand, there are people who can write programs but are not good at using smartphone apps.
In the end, it all comes down to whether you understand how to use it (the manual, how to operate it, etc.).
