[Video] Around 20 seconds: On December 3rd, Yoasobi appeared on the popular Korean music program “The Show” (SBS M, SBS FIL). The performance was broadcast live. Yoasobi appeared at the Korean music awards ceremony “MMA2024 (The 16th Melon Music Awards)” held on November 30th, and was selected as “J-Pop Favorite Artist.” In addition, they are scheduled to perform in Korea as part of their Asia tour “YOASOBi Asia Tour 2024-2025 “Cho-Genjitsu”” on December 7th and 8th, livening up the Korean music scene every day. This time at “The Show”, he will appear on the “Global Special Stage”. She sang two songs in front of the audience, her smash hit “Idol” and her new song “new me” which will be released on November 11th, and thrilled the crowd. Meanwhile, on the introduction screen before the performance, artist photos of vocalist ikura (24) and composer ayase (30) were displayed, but they had been edited in a way that is not often seen on Japanese music programs. Amazingly, both of Ayase’s arms were blurred out. Ayase is known for having tattoos of snakes and other creatures all over his neck and arms, and for having the letters “dvnc” tattooed on the second joint of his right finger. However, the costume he wore during his performance that day was a knitted garment with long sleeves that covered his fingertips, and a hoodie that completely covered his neck underneath, designed to hide his tattoos. In addition, in a photo of yoasobi posted on the program’s official account, the skin from under Ayase’s left ear to her neck appears unnaturally smooth, and there are traces of a tattoo that looks like it has been photoshopped away. A source familiar with the Korean entertainment industry explains why tattoos are covered up so thoroughly: “The image of tattoos in Korea is relatively similar to that in Japan, so it’s hard to say they’re accepted by everyone. Its use is often restricted in public places such as fitness clubs and public baths. Major television stations such as SBS, KBS, and MBC have clear rules not to show tattoos due to concerns about the influence they may have on underage viewers. There are many Korean celebrities and artists who have tattoos on parts of their bodies, but when such people appear on screen, the tattoos are often avoided or blurred out so that they don’t appear on camera. If it’s difficult to do so during live broadcasts, I try to cover it up in advance with taping, skin-colored underwear, makeup, etc.”
Ayase’s tattoos have been the subject of much discussion in the past. While Japanese shows often tolerate tattoos on musicians, Korean shows seem to be stricter. Josei Jishin 2024/12/05 06:00

What do they do with foreign celebrities?
If they’re just showing them normally then that’s discrimination.

In China, Korea, and Taiwan, athletes all have tattoos. In Japan, if a soccer player has one, he won’t be called up to the national team.

Why do you get so many tattoos? Do you find it pleasurable to get tattoos?
