[Cash Cancellation Area] 30% of students and new employees graduating in 2025 “If it was only cash payment, I would stop entering the store or making a purchase” | Maidona News
2024.12.10(Tue)
About one in three people in Gen Z answered that “If it was only cash payment, I would stop entering the store or making a purchase” — these survey results were revealed in a “Survey on the Financial Situation of Students and New Employees Graduating in 2025” by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). Additionally, when asked why they use cashless payment, about 70% of respondents said they could earn points and use them to get better deals. The survey was conducted online in September 2024, targeting 400 people (200 people each) in their teens and 20s nationwide who had received a job offer to join the company in April 2025 and 400 working adults in their first or second year at the company. According to the survey, more than one in three people answered that they had “avoided entering a store or making a purchase if the store only accepted cash payments” (34.0%). The so-called “XX cancellation community” is drawing attention as a community that wants to avoid actions in daily life that are perceived as “annoying” or “not cost-effective,” but (omitted)

5Anonymous Donburako.Dec. 10, 2024 (Tue) 16:44:32.33ID:DLR3QJlJ0
That’s true. I carry cash with me in case of trouble, but there’s no point in paying with cash normally.

I pay in cash because I want to keep the records of my payments to a minimum. Information about when, what, and how much I spent on a purchase is worth more points.

What does that have to do with paying in cash? You can manage your spending regardless of how you pay.

The drug store Cosmos that recently opened near my house only accepts cash

It seems to be cheaper because of that, but I happened to have almost no cash on me at the time so I couldn’t shop
I was stunned for a while.

16Anonymous Donburako.Dec. 10, 2024 (Tue) 16:47:19.34ID:+4B/CFWi0
I often go out without cash, so I can’t go into stores that only accept cash.
17Anonymous Donburako.Dec. 10, 2024 (Tue) 16:47:34.32ID:qcNHaHIP0
We have implemented PayPay, but for a small place like ours, it’s QR code payment, so you enter the amount, show it to the store, and press pay. It’s definitely easier to pay with cash.
18Anonymous Donburako.Dec. 10, 2024 (Tue) 16:47:38.37ID:bg0ZCxd10
I also only pay with ID or credit card.

Huh? Really?

The 100 yen store near my house has both manned and self-service registers.
Maybe because you can’t use cash at the self-service registers, there’s always a line for the manned ones.

The Seria near my house has manned registers that only take cash, and self-service registers that are cashless, but the self-service registers are always busier, so they’ve recently cut down on the number of manned registers and increased the number of self-service registers.

24Anonymous Donburako.Dec. 10, 2024 (Tue) 16:49:43.05ID:WPB91Gon0
Payment is by cash, but the easiest thing is to let the cashier handle the register.

Many places like drug stores don’t have memberships

They can make it cheaper by not having to pay card fees
That’s a management decision.

That doesn’t mean that stores that only accept cash are cheaper.
I think it’s fine if the store practices the policy of only accepting cash and being cheap.
