To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the city of Sayama in Saitama Prefecture, FamilyMart will be offering its flagship product, Famichiki (boneless), as school lunches. This is the company’s first attempt to provide products for school lunches. Approximately 10,500 Famichiki snacks will be provided free of charge to eight junior high schools in Sayama City on Thursday, December 19th, and to 15 elementary schools on Friday, December 20th. Through this initiative, FamilyMart hopes to get children to enjoy Famichiki and provide them with a special moment before Christmas. In addition, we plan to expand to other regions in the future. “Famichiki” is the company’s signature product, launched in 2006. As a new type of fried chicken, it has gained a lot of support due to its boneless convenience, crispy coating, and juicy flavor full of meat juices. As of the end of June 2024, cumulative sales have exceeded 2.2 billion meals, making it currently the No. 1 selling product among all FamilyMart products.

It’s already been done.

I think Famichiki is delicious, but I remember Lawson’s Golden Chicken with bones being strangely tasty.

It’s a sophisticated and tireless technique to get children to experience the taste of Famichiki and make them want to eat it even when they become adults. Even if it’s free, you can expect a return in the future.

Even if children from families who don’t usually have a chance to eat it eat it at school lunch and say it’s delicious, they might beg for it in front of a convenience store, and some parents might try it for the first time only because their children recommended it to them. I’m not sure about the humanitarian aspect of this, but if you think of it as a commercial fee for new developments, there’s no more effective method.

Famichiki was created by recruiting executives from KFC Japan who knew the recipe inside and out.

Japanese food already uses way too much chemical seasonings, so I don’t approve of getting people used to the taste of chemical seasonings from an early age.
