Brazil orders BYD to halt construction of new factory due to “slave-like” working conditions Brazilian authorities have halted construction of a new factory being built by Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD after finding that workers there were being subjected to “slave-like” working and living conditions. In response to this, the company terminated its relationship with the construction company that had been contracted to carry out the work. Brazilian authorities on Tuesday rescued 163 Chinese workers working on the construction of a new BYD factory in the northeastern state of Bahia and ordered construction to halt, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. Prosecutors said the workers lived in slave-like conditions and had their passports and most of their wages withheld by the construction company. In one case, a worker suffered an accident at work after working 25 consecutive days. In one of the accommodations, the beds had no mattresses and there was one bathroom for every 31 people. Workers had to wake up at 4 a.m. every day and be ready to go to work by 5:30 a.m.

> There was one bathroom for every 31 people.
This is a literal translation, but it means toilet.
The bathroom is a shower room.

Did they bring in Chinese people to work on the construction in Brazil?

Are the workers Chinese rather than local Brazilians?
10Anonymous Donburako.Dec. 24, 2024 (Tue) 23:33:12.15ID:Xj1L3SVA0
So Chinese people who went to Brazil to work ended up being treated like slaves by companies in their own country.

It’s not an order from a Chinese person living in Brazil, but from a slave sent from China.

BYD and other companies are just throwing in workers from China, just like they did with the construction of railways. There’s no benefit to the locals, and the Chinese people they use are treated like slaves. This is a country that deserves to perish.

If we don’t stop trading with China, the entire human race will be destroyed. The communist economy is a disaster.

Amazing.
This is the secret to cheap prices.
This is the reason why if you let China make things, you can’t win in anything but quality.
This news has all the reasons.

They say that half of the cost of a product is labor, so there’s a reason why it’s expensive or cheap lol.

If we bring our own slave labor, it seems like we can get construction work done at a lower cost, which is great 👍.
