A popular gyoza specialty restaurant in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, has been scheduled to close in January 2025. One of the reasons for this was the successive thefts caused by thieves stealing large amounts of goods. He said he had been victimized 25 times so far. The owner expressed his anger, saying, “I can’t forgive this perpetrator who keeps coming back.” More than 25 thefts in 2024 alone… A series of thefts at a popular gyoza specialty store
At the entrance to Osaka Fukuchan Gyoza Tokyo Ayase store, a gyoza specialty store in Adachi Ward, Tokyo, there was a sign posted stating that the store will close on January 4, 2025. The inventory in the store is also somewhat sparse. The owner expressed his anger after the repeated thefts, saying, “I can’t forgive the culprits who keep coming.” The total number of victims was an astonishing 25 times so far. This is said to be one of the reasons why the popular restaurant closed after two years in business. Osaka Fukuchan Gyoza, Ayase, Tokyo branch owner:
About 7 or 8 packs. They bring out a lot of goods. The business itself is in a very tough situation. The store’s security camera captured a person appearing in the middle of the night on November 15th, holding a white paper bag in one hand. He headed straight for the freezer, put a few items into a paper bag, and left the store without paying. Then, just before 2:00 a.m. on December 6th, a person appears carrying a white and green paper bag. The two bags were packed full of merchandise. He just walked out of the store. Even after seeing his own camera-proof photos… he blatantly stole them.
Furthermore, a similar incident occurred six days later. It was just after 1 a.m. on the 12th and the thief was carrying a white paper bag, as usual. However, after standing there for a while at the entrance, I noticed that something seemed a little different than usual. What I was looking at was a certain poster that was posted at the entrance. Owner of Osaka Fukuchan Gyoza, Ayase, Tokyo branch:
I printed out the details of the two thieves and put up a poster in front of the store. Just when you thought he would give up after seeing the awareness poster, he went into the store, put the items into a white and green paper bag, and then stole them without hesitation. A total of 16,000 yen was stolen over those three days. According to the owner, there have been at least 25 total burglaries in 2024 alone. He said he was attacked four times in November and December alone. The owner expressed his distress, saying that one of the reasons he was forced to close the store was due to the excessive number of thefts. Owner of Osaka Fukuchan Gyoza, Ayase, Tokyo branch:
I am very sad that we are being forced to close. I also feel very frustrated. I want him to turn himself in and reflect on his actions. (From “It!” broadcast on December 24th)

There is no way that an unmanned business can exist in Adachi Ward.

If there are so many thefts in this place, the police should be patrolling it 24 hours a day.

No no, I’m saying they should have a full-time employee
The Sukiya in Adachi Ward with a single employee wouldn’t be robbed even once a year.

A while ago there was news about a series of thefts at unmanned gyoza restaurants in Nishinari. Why would they go out of their way to do that type of business in a place with such poor security?

That’s right.
If they really can’t spare staff, they should introduce what are known as vending machines
and make it a system where you don’t get anything unless you put money in.
