“KnowledgeUkes” screen shows a “mushroom cloud” when you hold your smartphone over the Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo
What if an atomic bomb was dropped on the busy streets of Shibuya, Tokyo? The student group “KnownukesTokyo” has created content that imagines this scenario using augmented reality (AR). When you hold your smartphone over Shibuya’s Scramble Crossing, a 3D “mushroom cloud” will appear on the screen over the actual cityscape. The project was supervised by Professor Watanabe Hidenori of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies at the University of Tokyo and Professor Suzuki Tatsujiro of the Nagasaki University Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition. The content is called “KnowLukes” and will be available for free from August 1st to September 30th on the “Styly” app, which allows you to experience AR and virtual reality (VR). It is assumed that a Hiroshima-type atomic bomb was dropped approximately 1.5 km northwest of the scramble intersection. The explanation also included damage estimates of 80,000 deaths and 370,000 injuries. (Omitted)
