Average salary of 400,000 yen…National government employees have seen their summer bonuses increase for the second consecutive year, but when preparing answers to questions in the Diet, overtime ends at 5am the next day. “I can’t take it anymore!” | Gold Online
sgo Editorial Department 2024.8.2
National government employees have seen their summer bonuses increase for the second consecutive year. Although it is synonymous with a popular profession, it has been in decline in recent years, and people are increasingly turning away from the civil service. One of the reasons is the hard work. Everyone feels sympathy for the government district of Kasumigaseki, which turns into a sleepless city while the Diet is in session. Let’s take a look at the demanding work conditions of national civil servants through documents from the Cabinet Personnel Office. Increased for the second consecutive year… National government employees’ “summer bonus” is 659,400 yen
(Omitted)
The trend of “bureaucrats moving away” is getting worse… The reality of “working overtime until the morning” to prepare answers to questions in the Diet
When we think of national government employees, we tend to think of them as “highly paid employees,” but that is only the case for a small percentage of them. The structure is no different from that of the private sector. However, national civil servants were popular because they could work on matters related to national administration, they offered outstanding stability, and other attractions not found in the private sector. However, as has often been reported, something strange is happening there. The number of applicants for the 2024 national civil service general examination is expected to be around 24,000, down about 2,000 from last year. Like the number of applicants for the general career examination, the number of applicants was approximately 24,000, down by 2,000 from the previous year, and the same as the number of applicants for the general career examination announced earlier, this is the lowest ever. Also, the lineup of successful candidates for the national civil service general position, who become so-called “career bureaucrats,” has changed significantly in recent years. In the spring 2024 exam, 1,953 candidates passed, of which 189 were from the University of Tokyo. The current examination system was introduced in 2012, and the number of students taking the exam is the lowest it has ever been. The exam ratio was 7.0, also the lowest on record. There used to be an image of Tokyo University = bureaucrats, but recently there has been a growing tendency to avoid national civil service and to be oriented towards the private sector. One of the reasons people avoid becoming national civil servants is the working environment. An example that is often cited as a symbol of this is late-night overtime work required to deal with Diet sessions. In a “Survey on the Actual State of Parliamentary Response Work” conducted by the Cabinet Personnel Office during the extraordinary Diet session, two scenarios were calculated: the time when preparation of final responses can begin for each committee meeting, and the time when preparation of all responses is completed. The time when preparation of final responses can begin is around 7 p.m. The time when the preparation of the response was completed was late, at 29:06. That means 5:06 the next morning. When the first train starts moving, you’ll think, “It’s finally over…” Furthermore, after going to great lengths to prepare their responses, when they see other lawmakers dozing off in the room…it’s no wonder they feel like they can’t do it anymore. When it comes to creating the burdensome parliamentary responses to questions, there has been talk that “the use of AI might be effective,” but progress has been slow due to reasons such as the high number of typos with the technology available at the time, as well as some puzzling reasons such as “the answers lack life.” Some experts have sounded the alarm that if the trend of people turning away from national civil servants continues, “the country’s ability to govern will decline.” It’s a more serious problem than we thought. Today, wanting to be a bureaucrat is not dissimilar to wanting to be a samurai and joining the Shinsengumi during the end of the Edo period.
The postwar regime will soon end.
If the globalists win, Japan will disappear.
If the globalists lose, the current Japan will end and a new Japan will be born.

It should be forbidden to have bureaucrats prepare answers to questions in the Diet. Politicians should be able to express their opinions with their own mouths.

In that case,
you can’t be a politician without staff.
If we don’t allow a large number of staff to be employed at public expense, only the rich can become politicians.
Since politicians are not individuals but like business entities with a name behind them, maybe it should be that way.

Well, bureaucrats in their 20s can double their annual income if they change jobs, but it’s too stupid to keep doing it, so they’re quitting one after another (´・ω・`).

Remember, Japanese people only have two choices: death from overwork or unemployment.

In Japan, bureaucrats, ministers, and judges all work at the same level of consciousness that lack of sleep equals drunkenness, which is what’s causing all the problems.

A bunch of idiots who complain about how miserable they are because they are rigidly bound by a system they created themselves.

They’re being given night shift allowances and overtime pay lol. There’s no problem if the total working hours are within the set range. And it’s the LDP that’s trying to expand those hours even further.

Since government responses are responses from the administration, it is the job of civil servants to draft them.

The written responses should be prepared by personnel hired at the member’s own expense.

You should at least write your own answers and stop being a minister who just reads other people’s writings.

My classmates from university are able to go home on time and double their annual income thanks to work style reforms, while I work almost midnight and can barely keep up with them thanks to overtime pay. If I change jobs, I can go home earlier, double my annual income, and be promoted to department manager instead of section manager. People are quitting in droves, really.

That’s only true for a small minority of people. In the private sector, wages aren’t rising and overtime on weekends and holidays is fine. Don’t be so selfish.

It seems like national government employees are increasingly leaving the job.
I met a senior colleague recently and he said, “Local government employees have the best cost performance.” He quit his job as a national civil servant and now works at Shibuya Ward Office.
