On July 23rd, Chairman Kazumasa Kobayashi resigned to take responsibility for the situation. However, it was revealed that Kobayashi had been appointed special advisor to the company and would receive a monthly advisory fee of 2 million yen. A desk editor in the social affairs department of a national newspaper says: “The recent executive personnel changes include the resignation of Chairman Kobayashi and his eldest son, President Kobayashi Akihiro, but this is a measure following the conclusion of a ’Fact-Verification Committee’ made up of lawyers. Apart from providing relief to the victims, the committee has been investigating how the executives have acted to resolve the situation since the incident occurred and whether that was appropriate.”
