The suspension of some sections of the Tokaido Shinkansen on the 22nd hit families and inbound tourists planning to go on trips during the summer holidays hard. At Shin-Osaka Station (Yodogawa Ward, Osaka City), passengers were stranded in the scorching heat, and the crowds were full of confusion and fatigue.
“There’s no other way. I’ve got another day off tomorrow, so I’ll stay another night,” said a male office worker (56) who had visited Osaka with his family and was planning to return to Tochigi Prefecture, as he queued up at the ticket counter to get a ticket for the next day.
Although service resumed between Nagoya and Shin-Osaka at around 10 a.m., the major disruption of the timetable also extended to the Sanyo Shinkansen. Even at around noon, long lines were formed in front of the ticket machines and counters for purchasing and refunding tickets.
A station employee announced, “Please take today’s ticket home with you. Please come to the station later with your ticket.” Although the train status was repeatedly announced, the line in front of the ticket window kept turning around and stretching to a different ticket gate about 100 meters away.

Ballast tracks on high-speed railways are becoming relics of the heyday, so unless we open the Linear quickly and distribute traffic between the Linear and conventional lines, and proceed with slab construction and linear improvement work on the Shinkansen tracks, it will become increasingly difficult to transport the demand for Tokaido in the future.

Wouldn’t a local train be enough?
It takes more than 10 hours to travel from Hiroshima to Nagasaki by local train, but it takes only 6 hours from Nagoya to Tokyo, so it’s fast.

Currently, Hamamatsu-Nagoya is still running normally, and the parallel conventional lines
Toyohashi Station and Hamamatsu Station are in a state like >>39 (there are restrictions on entry to the station, so you have to wait 30 minutes, and the trains are constantly delayed), so it won’t take 6 hours to get there.
