Ukraine has launched a full-scale psychological warfare against North Korean soldiers deployed to war with Russia after posting a video on YouTube encouraging North Korean troops to surrender. He showed us a prisoner-of-war camp that was thoroughly cleaned and said, “We are provided with three meals a day, with meat as a side dish.” On the 22nd (local time), the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine posted a video titled “Message to the Korean People’s Army Soldiers” on its YouTube and Telegram channel “I Want to Live (Хочужить).” The channel is intended to encourage Russian troops to surrender, but for the first time, propaganda aimed at North Korean troops has been posted on it. Along with the video, the Ukrainian military said, “Those of you sent to help Putin’s regime, there is no need to die in vain on foreign soil. Surrender! Ukraine will protect you and provide you with food and warmth.” The video also outlined the standard of food, clothing, and shelter that North Korean soldiers would receive if they surrendered. A gentle Korean voice announces, “You will be accommodated in a large, warm, bright room with separate sleeping space,” and, “Prisoners of war at the camp are provided with three meals a day, with a menu that includes meat, fresh vegetables and bread.” In the section referring to the menu, they also show plates with individual pieces of meat. At the end, along with the phrase “Live to help yourself,” the ad includes a hotline with a phone number and a QR code for contacting the Ukrainian government. South Korea’s National Intelligence Service analyzed that North Korea had sent approximately 3,000 troops to Russia as of the 23rd. A total of 10,000 troops are expected to be dispatched by the end of this year, with the main focus being on the 11th Corps and the Storm Corps, considered to be the most elite. The troops have already undergone training in North Korea twice, in September and October, and those that have arrived in Russia are currently dispersing to local training facilities and adapting to the local situation.
