Aomori Broadcasting, December 20, 2024 0:11
The tuna fishing boat that caught the No. 1 tuna worth 300 million yen, the highest price ever, at the first auction in 2019 capsized off the coast of Oma Town on the 19th, killing one passenger and leaving the other missing. On the 19th, the Oma Fisheries Cooperative reported to the Aomori Coast Guard that the 4.9-ton vessel “Dai-nijuhachi Komyomaru,” which belonged to the Oma Fisheries Cooperative and was out fishing for tuna, had not returned even after 5:00 p.m., when it was scheduled to arrive at port. The fishing boat was carrying two men; captain Ryoichi Fujieda, 70, and crew member Yoshinori Sudo, 55, both of whom live in Oma Town. Fujieda has not yet been found, but Sudo was discovered at around 9:10 p.m. in the sea about 3 kilometers east-northeast from the Oma Saki Lighthouse. He was taken unconscious to a local hospital and was confirmed dead a short time later. Life jackets were worn. According to information from the Oma Fisheries Cooperative Association, at around 11:22 p.m., a fishing boat believed to be the 28th Komyo Maru was found capsized with its bottom visible, approximately 2 kilometers east-northeast of the Oma Saki Lighthouse. The missing Fujieda is the fisherman who caught a 278kg bluefin tuna at the first auction of 2019, which fetched a record high price of 333.6 million yen. At the time of the incident, the wind speed in the area was approximately 7 meters from the west-northwest, waves were approximately 1 meter, and the sea temperature was 11 degrees. According to sources, many fishing boats were out on the market on the 19th in preparation for the first auction at Toyosu Market. The search for Fujieda has been ongoing through the night.
