A male employee in his 50s died after being buried under hot ash at a glass manufacturing factory in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture. Three other employees were injured. At around 11:30 a.m. on the 29th, a male employee at Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd.’s Chiba plant on Anesaki Beach in Ichihara City called 119 to report that “a colleague has been buried under ash and is not breathing.” According to police, three employees were using buckets to shovel ash from a device used to remove exhaust fumes that build up during the process of making plate glass when the piled up ash collapsed like an avalanche, burying them. A male employee in his 50s was rescued in an unconscious state and taken to hospital, but later died. Three people were injured – two who managed to escape on their own and another employee who tried to rescue them – but their lives are not in danger. At the time, the conveyor belt that transports ash at the factory had been shut down for maintenance, so the ash had to be removed by hand. TV Asahi.

Maybe he inhaled ash and his lungs got burned, making it hard to breathe?

If they’re doing maintenance, I think they should just shut down the whole thing

I think it’s more like they’re repairing something that broke rather than doing maintenance

But production will continue.
