[Tokyo] “It’s hot, so drink something” – Air conditioner repairman 40 arrested for giving sleeping pills...suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s
On the 13th, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division arrested air conditioner repairman Hiroaki Sudo (40) of Shimoogi, Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse and other charges for allegedly giving sleeping pills to a female occupant of a room whom he had come to repair while repairing her air conditioner, and then sexually assaulting her. He denies the charges, saying “I don’t know.” He was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female resident in her 20s after giving her a drink laced with sleeping pills at some point between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on August 26th in an apartment in Machida City, Tokyo, where he had gone to repair an air conditioner. According to the department, the woman requested repairs through a real estate company because her air conditioner was leaking water. At around 9:00 a.m. on the same day, suspect Sudo visited the room alone. After finishing his work, the suspect reportedly handed the woman a drink laced with sleeping pills, saying, “It’s hot, so have something.” The woman said, “I lost strength in my arms and legs, and was overcome by an intense feeling of sleepiness, which led to me losing consciousness.” At around 4 p.m. on the same day, the woman’s boyfriend returned home from work and found her in a daze, and called 110. When the agency used a simple testing kit, it found sleeping pills in the woman’s body.
