[USA] Routh, the suspect in the attempted assassination of Trump, voted in this spring’s Democratic primary, saying, “Democracy is on the line, and we cannot lose.”
[Kyodo News, Washington] According to U.S. media, suspect Ryan Routh (58), who was arrested in Florida on the 15th in connection with an attempted assassination of former President Trump, had criticized Trump on social media, saying he would “enslave and rule Americans again.” He has also been charged in the past with possessing a machine gun. Social media accounts purportedly belonging to the suspect stated that he graduated from a college in North Carolina and had been self-employed in Hawaii since 2018. He had previously worked in construction. During the 2020 presidential election, he sent money to a Democratic donation site, and voted in North Carolina’s Democratic primary this spring. In April, on x (formerly Twitter), he emphasized, “We cannot afford to lose” regarding the presidential election. His motives are unclear, but his past statements suggest he strongly supported Ukraine, which is under Russian aggression, and viewed Trump as a threat to democracy. (Omitted) Routh is a staunch supporter of Ukraine and entered the country after Russia’s invasion in 2022. He told journalists that he wanted to help recruit volunteers because he was unable to become a volunteer due to his age. In a video interview published by Newsweek Romania in June 2022, he said, “Many other conflicts are grey, but this one is definitely black and white. “This is a question of good and evil,” he said. “If the government won’t send in formal troops, then we civilians must take over that role.” Ukraine’s foreign volunteer organization told Reuters it had no ties to Routh. He also posted in support of Ukraine on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Reuters could not verify whether the account belonged to the suspect. Authorities declined to comment and access to the profiles on Facebook and X was removed hours after the incident. On X, Facebook and LinkedIn, there were comments calling Trump a threat to American democracy. In a post on X in 2020, he supported Senator Sanders, who was competing for the Democratic presidential nomination, and mocked Biden as “Sleepy Joe.” But this year, he wrote, “@potus, your campaign slogan should be something like ’KADAF’ (keep america democratic and free). Let’s make America a democratic and free country. Trump should be called master ’MASA’ (make americans slaves again),” he posted on X. “This election is a test of democracy and we cannot afford to lose,” he wrote. He makes up all sorts of excuses, but if it doesn’t work, people will suspect he staged it, and it will only have the opposite effect. Yamagami’s greatness is that he changed Japan with one blow. However, neither of his actions are worthy of praise.
>>20 Well, I can’t deny that Trump has become the kind of person who is suspected of staging attacks, but a society that claims they were staged even when there are real attacks is not healthy.
Ah, it’s this person. I saw a post by x saying that she was on the cover of a magazine or something, giving a preview. I didn’t read it properly though.
>>43 He loves guns so much that he was a Trump supporter, so that’s what happens. The fact that he was targeted by a crazy ex-gun fan after promoting his gun-loving and extremist ideas last time is a joke.
