In a case in which five men were arrested for stealing luxury watches such as Rolex along with a delivery truck, it has been revealed that one of the motives is believed to be to earn money to purchase stimulants. Kenji Morikita (55), who was arrested on the 21st, and two others are suspected of stealing 203 luxury watches, including Rolex watches, worth approximately 280 million yen, from a delivery truck in May 2024. In this case, three suspects, including the perpetrators Toru Murata (52) and Shinya Onishi (52), have already been arrested, and it is believed that Morikita and the others gave instructions to the perpetrators to carry out the crime. Subsequent interviews with investigators revealed that four of the five arrested, excluding Murata, were in possession of what appeared to be stimulants. Police have not revealed whether the five have admitted to the crimes, but are investigating the possibility that Morikita and the others were linked together and committed the crime with the goal of earning money to purchase stimulants. The police are also investigating the possibility that there may have been other accomplices, as most of the stolen watches have not been found. 10/22 (Tue) 12:22 Yomiuri TV Original news thread “Rolex” theft case: Two new suspects arrested, possibly masterminds, Osaka [Fragrant roasting★].
The Osaka thieves are impressive. They’re not like the Tokyo robber gangs who hire part-timers to rob houses that don’t even have anything to steal.
They’re brilliant thieves who buy information from insiders and make meticulous plans. Moreover, they don’t hire part-timers recruited online, but trustworthy drug addicts, so that even if the drug addicts are arrested, there’s no danger to the thieves. Osaka’s criminals are excellent, but these excellent guys probably aren’t Japanese.
