A 52-year-old man was arrested at a convenience store in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, for shoplifting and hitting and injuring a store clerk while fleeing in a car. The arrested suspect is Maki Akimoto (52), a resident of Toyohashi City whose occupation is unknown. Akimoto is suspected of shoplifting two figurines that were lottery prizes at the Seven-Eleven Toyohashi Omatsucho store around 10:30 p.m. on the 22nd, and then hitting a female store employee (57) with his car while trying to flee, injuring her hand and elbow. A male customer (57) who tried to stop Akimoto from fleeing also collided with Akimoto’s car and suffered minor injuries, including bruises on his hands and elbows.
