A post titled “Reasons why I don’t want to live in Japan” has been made on Chinese social media, causing a stir. On the 17th, a female blogger with 2.8 million followers on the social networking site Weibo wrote, “I think Japan is a great place to travel to, but I don’t think it’s the same if you’re going to live in Japan.” The blogger explained the reason for this by saying, “It’s really depressing. The soundproofing in the rooms is poor, so we have to speak in whispers even at home. There are a lot of etiquette rules in class (at school), and we have to bow frequently. Having to say ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ to everyone (which is a pain for an introvert),” she explained. He also said, “After changing trains on countless JR lines many times, I arrived at a shopping arcade that looked just like the original. I began to understand a little bit about the loneliness that international students feel. I was fine with my short stay. “I can live knowing that I will be able to go home next month,” he explained. However, he said, “It doesn’t mean that Japan is bad. She added, “I think manners and order in public places are great, and as an ISTJ (Administrative type) I like rules.” In response to this post, Chinese netizens commented, “Japan is a really good place to visit. It’s nice and clean and the food is delicious. But living there…” “I understand! I’ve traveled there three times and enjoyed it every time, but the thought of living in Japan is very tiring.” “Traveling to Japan is fun, but working for a Japanese company makes my colleagues feel like standardized machines. They’re inflexible and you can’t really sense their individuality.” “Exactly. Traveling is fun but the longer I live here the more depressing it becomes. The better your Japanese becomes, the more Japanese people will expect you to show the same etiquette as their own people. There were voices of agreement such as, “If you accidentally do something rude, it’s all over.” He also said, “It’s true that Shibuya and Shinjuku in Tokyo all have a similar feel. I live in Fukuoka, and there’s nature around and the pace of life is relaxed, so I don’t feel lonely.” “Osaka is better than Tokyo because it’s more relaxed.” “I agree. “After all, a place with a human touch is best,” was one comment. On the other hand, there are also people who say, “I’m also very introverted, but I think Japan suits me,” and “I’m an ISTJ too.” I certainly love the sense of order in Japan,” and others said, “I’ve been living in Japan for seven years now, and I really love the restraint and superficial manners of the people. If you don’t want to socialize you don’t have to, and if you do there are plenty of social events available. At work, we are respectful of each other and keep things to ourselves, so (the distance) is comfortable.” “I’ve been living in Japan for over 20 years. If you live in a slightly nicer house, it will be properly soundproofed, so you don’t have to worry about having a normal conversation. Most of the place is clean. There are also comments such as, “I feel like there is a certain amount of distance between people, but I like it that way.” (Translation and editing by Kitada)

It seems that the longer foreigners stay in Japan, the more depressed they become as they think about the difference between their home country and Japan when they return.

This is probably a genuine opinion, but this is exactly one of the reasons why multicultural coexistence is impossible. We have different values.

It’s one thing if they’re talking on their smartphones, but most people are using lapel microphones
and talking loudly by themselves, which is shocking.

Of course, if you’re going as a customer, you wouldn’t want to go to a place full of people who don’t follow the rules.

Work is really tough in Japan. Power harassment, sexual harassment. This is why Tokyo University students go to foreign companies.

I wonder if that doesn’t translate into an income like YouTube.
I wonder if she’s living in a cheap apartment far from the city center.
That must be tough.

Introverted?
Maybe you’d be better off in China, where people are selfish, arrogant and assertive?
If you don’t even want to say hello, just stay home or live in the countryside.

It must be difficult for Chinese people to live here, as until recently they were wearing Mao suits and riding bicycles.

90% of Japanese people hate China and Chinese people who have bad manners and commit crimes such as tax evasion. Japan is not a comfortable place for badly behaved or loose Chinese people. Bribes don’t work, and there is basically no discrimination based on whether you have money or not. The Chinese government doesn’t want its citizens to run away to Japan with their money, and they don’t want it to become a base for an anti-Chinese government, so it’s possible that they’re using Chinese people in Japan to campaign against people immigrating to Japan.

It must be fun to travel and do whatever you want without worrying about bothering other people and then go home right away.

If you feel comfortable with the rules of the country with the strictest citizen surveillance in the world, then go back home. And I hope those with bad behavior will go back home too. There are over 190 countries in the world, so why not find one that suits your level of civility and move there?

Thirty years ago it was migrant workers, 10 or 20 years ago it was Japan lovers, and in the 2020s it seems there are more and more people fleeing the Kim Jong Un administration. Be careful, the people coming now are genuine Chinese who cannot fit into Japanese society and want to create a society with only Chinese people and take the best parts.
