Two Chinese brothers were arrested on the spot for stealing cabbages from a field in Shimotsuma City, Ibaraki Prefecture. At around 2:30 p.m. on the 21st, a man called the police to report that he had caught two men stealing cabbages in a field in Minaba, Shimotsuma City. When police arrived at the scene, they arrested Chinese suspects Zhou Chengqing (45) and Zhou Chengyi (36), also of Chinese nationality, on suspicion of theft, after they had been detained by a male acquaintance of the owner of the field, who had loaded eight cabbages into the bed of the truck. The two are brothers and both deny the allegations. About 4km west of the crime scene in Yachiyo Town, around 1,200 cabbages were stolen on the 18th of this month from a field, and there have been a series of cabbage thefts in the surrounding area, with police investigating whether they are related.
