A nationwide survey of local governments conducted by Kyodo News on the 13th revealed that 329 employment facilities across the country, where disabled people were able to acquire skills and knowledge while working, were closed between March and July of this year, resulting in the dismissal or retirement of at least 5,000 disabled people who were working there. The highest number of disabled people ever laid off in a year was about 4,000. Although this includes people who have resigned, the number is unprecedented in just five months. The main reason for this is that in February the government announced a reduction in compensation for unprofitable workplaces, in order to encourage management improvements at employment workplaces that rely on public funds, and implemented this reduction in April. The ones that are seeing a rise in closures are “Type A employment support facilities.” They enter into employment contracts with people with disabilities, pay them above the minimum wage, and provide them with productive activities and vocational training. There are approximately 4,600 such facilities across the country, employing over 80,000 people, mainly people with mental and intellectual disabilities. The survey was conducted in July in 129 municipalities, including prefectures, designated cities, and core cities. I got responses from all of them. >>1 Business owners are closing down because they want to make money, not for social reasons. School management is the same. Many private schools are run for the money. It’s a lucrative business where they get subsidies based on the number of students. So they focus on sports to raise their profile. It’s good advertising.
>>1 This is going to double the cost of welfare… Type B is funded by the local government, so it’s just ridiculously expensive In the end, the system is such that the burden increases to the extent that discrimination is made.
>>3 Namapo should only be for people with disabilities, incurable diseases, and sick people over 65 The following types of namapo should be abolished People without “diseases or disabilities designated by the government and doctors” Foreigners, NEETs, and ex-offenders.
There were a few type A guys in yellow hats working in our new warehouse that didn’t have air conditioning. They were doing better work than the day laborers.
>>12 Otherwise, they’ll take a cut The only people making money are the people in charge, while the staff and people with disabilities get minimum wage.
They were the weak ones who were the first to be caught up in Kishida’s Ministry of Finance’s austerity policies. The summer fixed tax cut will be the last and the government will start collecting funds from the private sector. Local governments are overtaxing people beyond their budgets and have a surplus of cash.
It would be a useful contribution to society if people went door to door across the country to eliminate lice and compile a list of illegal immigrants.
>>59 Disabled people want to work They can work, so they work as slave labor type B There are actually workshops deep in the mountains where it’s impossible to escape.
