If it becomes available for purchase at pharmacies and drugstores, it will be good news for men who have been struggling to talk about their problems, but there is also criticism that “why is it being made before emergency contraception?” Emergency contraception requires a prescription and is currently only being sold on a trial basis at certain pharmacies. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has stated that “discussion on the over-the-counter sale of ED treatment drugs is not a priority,” so why does it feel like “emergency contraception is being put on the back burner”? It’s the obstetrician-gynecologists’ special interest. Abortion is the prerogative of obstetricians, so it would be a problem if it were easily done with medicine.
