Bank of Japan Governor Ueda hinted at further interest rate hikes, saying that gradually raising interest rates in line with improvements in the economy and prices will “support long-term growth” of the Japanese economy. Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda: “Gradually adjusting the level of monetary easing in line with improvements in the economy and prices will support long-term growth and contribute to achieving the price stability target in a sustainable and stable manner,” Ueda said at a press conference today, indicating that the bank will continue to explore the timing of further interest rate hikes. However, when it comes to raising interest rates, the Bank will closely monitor risk factors such as the situation in overseas economies such as the United States and market trends, and will “make decisions based on the data and information available at each decision-making meeting.” For the full text, see source. Japan is the only country that’s saying interest rates shouldn’t be raised because mortgage borrowers will die.
Then just borrow at a fixed rate. Otherwise there’s no point in it being fixed.

As expected of President Ueda, he is very different from Ishiba Tamaki, who is more pro-investor.

If we don’t raise it when we can, we won’t be able to lower it when we need to. The world will automatically fall into recession and Japan will be affected too.

Interest rates rise → inflation → yen weakens → inflation → yen weakens → interest rates rise
Interest rates rise, leading to a spiral of yen weakening and inflation
An inflationary spiral is created.

The Bank of Japan used to be the one that failed to lower interest rates when it really needed to, and ended up raising them at the wrong time, causing the economy to tank.

If interest rates rise, Japanese companies will raise prices to repay their debts, and because Japanese people want to repay their debts, they will add to their costs, which will lead to inflation and a weaker yen.

Raising interest rates creates inflation, which leads to economic growth and has a positive effect on government bonds and the stock market.

The worst thing about raising interest rates is that it will affect Japan’s economic growth. Raising interest rates will increase GDP, which is something the Ministry of Finance hates the most.
