Hitachi, anticipating a decline in the working population, is strengthening its support services for companies to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to solve social issues such as labor shortages. The company will place generative AI at the core of its digital business, investing 300 billion yen this fiscal year and training 50,000 specialized personnel by fiscal 2019. The company has formed a series of partnerships with major American IT companies in order to enhance its services and seize growth opportunities. “The labor shortage is becoming more serious both at home and abroad. “I want to use data and technology to solve social issues.” Hitachi President Keiji Kojima emphasized this at the company’s technology exhibition held in Tokyo on the 4th. Hitachi recorded a final deficit of 787.3 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2009, but made a comeback by implementing large-scale restructuring reforms. The company has proactively restructured its business and transformed into a digital manufacturing company, but even 15 years after the management crisis, it remains committed to using technology to solve social issues. ■ Utilizing technology transfer and proposing in-house achievements to customers Generative AI is the target for the next growth stage.
