On September 19, 2024, Nintendo and Pokémon announced that they had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocket Pair in the Tokyo District Court. According to Nintendo, the lawsuit was filed on September 18th. The lawsuit claims that Pocket Pair’s monster-collecting open-world survival game “Pal World” infringes multiple patents and seeks an injunction to stop the infringement and compensation for damages. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company issued a joint statement saying, “In order to protect the important intellectual property that we have built up through many years of hard work, we will continue to take the necessary measures against infringement of our intellectual property, including our brand.”
