Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. has filed a recall with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for 15 vehicle models, including the Tanto, totaling more than 1.71 million vehicles, citing improper tightening of the bolts securing the seats, which could, in the worst case scenario, cause the seats to move in the event of a collision and prevent them from providing the intended safety performance. The recall covers 15 vehicle models manufactured between October 2019 and October 2023, including the Daihatsu Tanto and Taft, Toyota’s Raize, and the Subaru Chiffon, totaling more than 1.71 million vehicles. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the bolts securing the driver’s seat and passenger seat in these vehicles are not properly tightened, and the bolts can loosen due to vibrations while driving. In the worst case scenario, the seats may move in the event of a collision, preventing the vehicles from providing the intended safety performance. No accidents have been reported so far, but 449 reports of malfunctions have been received.
