Lawson, a major convenience store chain, aims to install crane game machines in 1,000 stores nationwide by fiscal 2025. The aim is to attract customers with popular games. Lawson will install crane game machines in some stores in the Kinki region in 2022, and in some stores in urban areas such as the Tokyo metropolitan area from April this year. The character goods that are given as prizes in the games are popular with inbound (foreign visitors to Japan) customers, and sales at stores in tourist destinations such as Odaiba in Tokyo and Kyoto are particularly strong. A public relations representative analyzed, “The fact that the prizes are products that are not sold in the stores and the reasonable price of 100 yen per game are attracting customers.” According to a survey by the Japan Amusement Industry Association, crane games are a popular genre that accounts for more than half of the total sales of amusement facilities. However, according to a survey by Teikoku Databank, a total of 18 amusement facilities went bankrupt or closed down in fiscal 2011, and the number of amusement facilities suffering from rising operating costs is on the decline. In the future, convenience stores may become the new home of crane games. “We want people to enjoy the games casually at familiar convenience stores across the country,” said Lawson. The company also plans to consider expanding crane game services, such as by offering original prizes that can only be obtained at stores that have the games installed, and by linking them to campaigns.
>>9 This It should be regulated by law It’s worse than pachinko now This, probability machines, and weird gachapon machines (the ones that say things like the switch will win)
Are they going to put them inside the store? They say they’re targeting foreigners, but won’t Japanese customers run away if they’re hanging out in front of the game machines with giant suitcases?
Stop it. It’ll just increase the workload of the store staff. Even just for the lottery, customers have to line up from early in the morning, which is already a hassle.
>>30 Where? I’m in Kyushu, but they’re rapidly disappearing, and when I go there thinking there should be some, they’re gone everywhere, so I’m honestly having trouble.
