■A perfect car to cut into the wasteland of EVs
In Japan, there are several models that were introduced with much fanfare but ended up with disastrous results and were withdrawn. Examples of older models include the Chrysler Neon, which advertised its low price starting at 1.3 million yen, the Saturn, which became a hot topic with its “Show your gratitude” commercial, and the Toyota Cavalier, which was released with a Toyota badge in order to ease trade friction between Japan and the United States. Many of these were strategic models developed to compete seriously with “compact” and “highly functional” Japanese cars. Because of these features, the media at the time called it a “Japanese car killer,” but I remember that when I actually test drove it, the quality of the car was “not that great.” However, this time I test drove the “Japanese car killer,” which is in a different situation from previous models. It is Hyundai’s compact BEV “Instar” which is scheduled to be introduced in Japan. Founded in 1967, Hyundai is relatively young among automakers, but it is an undeniable fact that in a short period of time it has become a global automaker on par with its competitors. The company entered the Japanese market in 2001 but withdrew from the market in 2009. The company then re-entered the market in 2022 and is now adopting a bold strategy of “BEV/FCEV only” and “online sales only.” Sales volume for 2023 is 489 units, and the company would probably like to see a slight increase in sales. Currently, the BEV lineup is beginning to expand in Japan, although at a slower pace than in other countries. However, what is surprisingly not a good area is finding a model that has a good balance between “an easy-to-handle size,” “a driving range of around 300 to 350 km that can be covered by a single vehicle,” and “an affordable price that makes it easy to replace an internal combustion vehicle,” and the Instar fits that bill perfectly. ■It comes with all the equipment you want!
The body size is 3,825mm long, 1,610mm wide, 1,575mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,580mm, which is close to that of the Toyota Yaris. The crossover-style design looks similar to the Suzuki Hustler/XBEE, but the front and rear headlights feature the same polygon design as the Ioniq5, giving it an advanced look. The interior has a simple, orthodox dashboard layout and a reasonable quality, but it is equipped with all the features that Japanese users would want, such as a full LCD meter, a touch screen with navigation, driving assistance (ACC + steering control), paddle shift (regenerative control), electronic parking brake and hold function, heated steering wheel, heated seats and air conditioning, wireless charging function, etc. What about the all-important driving performance? The model we test drove this time was the high-end Long Range model, which is equipped with an 84.5kW (115PS)/147Nm motor and a 47.0kWh lithium-ion battery, and has a driving range of 370km (15-inch)/360km (17-inch) in WLTP mode. This time, I test drove the car on ordinary roads and expressways in Korea, and I felt its strength, which made me forget that the vehicle weighed 1,451 kg. The driving was more aggressive than in Japan and there were many scenes that required explosive power, but the car was more powerful than its specs would suggest. However, although the torque rises strongly when you step on the accelerator, it is true that the torque beyond that point feels lacking. ■The obvious things come naturally
As for electricity consumption, it recorded 8.5 to 9.0 km/kWh when driving about 70% on highways and 30% on regular roads. There is little error in the range before driving and the trip meter + remaining range, so the practical range seems to be very close to the catalog value. The full text below is at the source

Netouyo just post in free places, but ugly leftists have a hard time paying tribute to higher organizations.
I thought it would be Zaiko who would buy it, but maybe they’re being dragged in.
That’s also cereal.
There’s a world of difference between the car you want and the car you actually buy and drive. LOL.
If you see a Japanese car, lock on and ram it? Do it in Korea.
or a 3 million yen car with no remaining debt.
I agree.
The front looks like a Prius on top of a Hustler.
Too ugly.
I’d be really surprised if this sells.
It was a free ad.
I see, that’s why he changed it to a Porsche lol.
Companies that accelerated the shift to EVs are in trouble.
You’re so ignorant of the social situation that the whole of America is crying.
Toyota: 30% decrease in profits
Nissan: 90% decrease in profits
Honda: 20% decrease in profits
What are we going to do about this lol\(^o^)/.
Honda engine recall.
If you look at Nissan, which is the one promoting EVs the most,
anyone except ignorant idiots can see that the shift to EVs is no good.
I drive a Honda Odyssey and a Subaru XV, but I don’t need an EV.
I have a Harrier PHEV
Buy them a new Nissan car, like a 400R
If they carry on like this they’ll end up under Hyundai’s umbrella.
Why don’t you drive a Hyundai?
18℃? Are you fat?
Hybrid is the best fit for Japan right now.
