A woman living in the Tokai region who listed an item on Mercari, a major flea market app, received a complaint from a buyer and agreed to return the item, but was sent a completely different item and was defrauded of her purchase. She has now filed a police report. There have been multiple complaints on social media that the operating company’s support for these types of issues is insufficient, so Mercari is considering reviewing and strengthening its support. The victim was a woman in her 30s who lives in the Tokai region. We submitted the information to NHK’s information center, News Post. According to the woman, she put a plastic tank model up for sale on Mercari this month, and the buyer contacted her to say that “parts were damaged.” When the woman returned the item, she received a box of a plastic model of a different tank with a similar design, containing the frame with the parts removed and paper waste. The woman explained the situation to the operating company, including sending pictures of the items she received, but the company responded by saying that “the purchaser insists that the item was definitely returned,” and further that “it would be difficult to continue providing support,” and therefore canceled the transaction. Mercari has already refunded the money owed to the buyer, and has been told that it “cannot provide compensation for the damage.” As a result, the woman reported the crime to the police on the 15th of this month, claiming that she had been defrauded of her goods.
They don’t charge consumption tax, they don’t have a secondhand goods dealer license, and they can do whatever they want, so I’m sure they’ll get an order from the government soon.
It’s like the unassembled plastic models of my late father. There’s no point in having them, so I think it would be better to sell them to someone who wants them.
>>34 I thought the president must be a fool if they were struggling in the US, the home of eBay, despite it being a cheap copycat with zero name recognition.
>>38 Do you want to keep something you have no sentimental attachment to for the rest of your life? Even an unused plastic model? There are plenty of other things you have sentimental attachment to.
>>38 There are probably plenty of other memorable items, so it would be best if the collection was passed down to people who would appreciate its value.
For quite some time now, many places have been posting signs saying that products cannot be returned to prevent fraud, but it seems that there are actually people who do this.
