MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia’s central bank said on Thursday it would halt foreign currency purchases to ease pressure on financial markets after the ruble fell below 110 to the dollar, down more than 30 percent since early August. The product will be suspended in the domestic market from the 28th until the end of the year, and purchases will be postponed until next year. For details, see source Reuters 2024/11/28
The Russian currency, the ruble, fell sharply on the 27th from 105.5 rubles to 114.53 rubles per dollar. A shortage of foreign currency in Russia may have made foreign exchange intervention difficult, leading to a sharp fall in the ruble. In the four days following the introduction of sanctions against Gazprombank, the dollar surged 14% and the euro 13%, causing independent media to report market panic. In addition, Russia is in the midst of a serious inflation crisis, and the depreciation of the ruble could further accelerate inflation.

There’s no way a country that issues government bonds with an annual interest rate of 20% can be lenient.

Countries that are not participating in the sanctions are taking advantage of Russia’s weakness to buy cheap oil, which shows there is no friendship between nations.
The US is increasing its oil production at a rapid pace, and Trump says he will accelerate it even further.

They’re only making money from the huge public works project of war.
If they make weapons, it becomes GDP, but unlike civilian goods, weapons don’t generate new wealth, so they’re in a dire situation.
It would be different if they won the war and got some big profits, but that’s not the case.
