Regarding the rise in prices of vegetables such as cabbage and tomatoes, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Eto expressed the view at a press conference on the 29th that the prices will likely stabilize around the latter half of December, when the production areas for these vegetables will change. According to a summary by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the wholesale prices of 14 major vegetable items at the Tokyo Central Wholesale Market have increased from average prices for all items as of November 26, with cabbage and tomatoes more than double the average price. Regarding this, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Eto stated at a press conference on the 29th that he expects shipments from the next production areas to increase around the latter half of December, and vegetable prices will likely stabilize. Wholesale prices of eggs, a common food ingredient, are also continuing to rise. In November, wholesale prices of eggs traded in the Tokyo area rose for the fourth consecutive month compared to the previous month. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries cites increased demand for cakes and oden as the main factor. The average price in the Tokyo area of JA Zennoh Eggs, which serves as a benchmark for the wholesale price of eggs, was 281 yen per kilogram of medium-sized eggs in November, up 6 yen, or 2.1%, from October. *For the full article, see the following source: NHK News Web, November 29, 2024, 15:13.
I cannot forgive the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ careless, irresponsible, and indifferent comments. He has also left the price of rice soaring.
I don’t think prices at retail supermarkets have risen so much that it’s making life difficult. A pack of 10 large eggs costs 268 yen. A pack of Yukiguni Maitake Kiwami costs 199 yen.
These guys are so uninterested in anything that doesn’t concern them at all. They do act quickly though when it comes to handing out benefits to the elderly and insurance companies.
