The excessive use of truck-related death scenes in movies and anime has tarnished the reputation of the logistics industry — one transportation company manager’s lament becomes a hot topic overseas
A transport company manager said that movies and anime are reinforcing the public’s negative image of trucks. As reported by Logistics Weekly and translated and introduced by automaton for overseas readers, a transport company manager in Shizuoka Prefecture lamented that the cars used in scenes in which characters die in traffic accidents in movies, dramas, manga, and anime are mostly large vehicles such as trucks and dump trucks, which is damaging the reputation of the logistics industry. In the automaton article, an example of such an expression is anime of “other world” stories. An other world story is a work in which the protagonist dies and is reincarnated in another world and sets off on a new adventure. In other world stories, the cause of the protagonist’s death is very often caused by a truck, and overseas, this common pattern has even led to the creation of an internet meme called “truck-kun”. Many anime, such as “Wise Man’s Grandchild”, “Knight’s & Magic”, and “Zombie Land Saga”, use trucks, and in “Isekai Shikkaku”, the truck itself is explained as an entity that chooses people and takes them to a new world (as in the post x above). The manager of a transportation company points out that the repeated appearance of truck-related deaths in anime and other media creates something akin to a subliminal effect, which creates an inherent fear and disgust towards trucks. While he says that it can’t be helped as long as there is freedom of expression, he doesn’t want trucks to be the only ones criticized.
That’s an interesting story. Trucks are actually dangerous to pedestrians, so isn’t it helpful to have that image? The labor shortage problem is just a money problem.
It’s terrible to cut into cars, actually. I was almost killed when I was riding a moped on a narrow road. I was pinned between cars in front and behind when I parked my car, and it took a while to get out. I understand that trucks are necessary for logistics, but on the other hand, there are just too many of them.
You hate clichés, don’t you? It’s important to speak up. There’s no more bloody shower scenes, and I understand that you’re annoyed by the simplistic direction.
Where did the idea of being reincarnated after being hit by a truck originate from? In Tensura, the protagonist is reincarnated after being stabbed by a thug.
Due to the structure, blind spots are inevitable, and people under high school age who don’t have a driver’s license can’t tell the difference between the inside and outside of the vehicle, so trucks and kids don’t get along well.
Minky Momo… Also, there was a scene in Creamy Mami where a truck crashed into a phone booth It was a prank movie that was kept secret from the person involved, but would they really go that far? lol
