UAE economy minister calls for greater penetration of anime and other content in exclusive interview with Nippon TV
The economy minister of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) gave an exclusive interview to Nippon TV and called for greater penetration of Japanese content, including anime. UAE Minister of Economy Al-Marri, who has begun negotiations on a bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan, gave an exclusive interview to Nippon Television. Economy Minister Al-Marri: “We hope that Nintendo will create more games for the Middle East region. “There are a lot of fans here, so I hope Nintendo will consider this a good area for business expansion.”
Al-Marri said he himself has been familiar with Japanese anime such as “Captain Tsubasa” since he was a child, and expressed his hopes for the further expansion of Japanese content such as anime and games into the UAE. He also said that the UAE’s creative industry accounts for about 5% of its GDP, and expressed confidence that the country’s talented people will be able to cooperate with Japan. On the other hand, he pointed out that in order for Japan to further expand its tourism industry as inbound tourism increases, it needs to simplify visa procedures for visitors to Japan.
