“I’m so depressed my hair is falling out” – Director Koki Mitani in big trouble, new film “Let’s Talk about Suomi” is his “dark history” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.
Koki Mitani (63), a well-known screenwriter and film director, is in a desperate situation. In the worst case scenario, there is a possibility that he may never be able to take the megaphone again, which is no joke. “It’s because it’s been booed by distributors, sponsors, and even actors. “Mitani is so depressed that he’s losing his hair,” said an entertainment agency source.
[Related] Oda Yuji turned down the role in the movie “Bayside Shakedown” because of the fee, etc. The reason why Mitani, who had a reputation as a hit maker, lost popularity was the bad reviews of the movie “Let’s Talk About Suomi,” starring Nagasawa Masami, which was released on September 13th. “In the first three days, the film attracted 313,000 viewers and earned 439 million yen in box office revenue, debuting in first place. In the four days since its release, including the holiday on the 16th, the film attracted an audience of 431,000 and grossed 597 million yen. But the momentum was only there at the beginning. In the second week it dropped to third place. In the end, it is said that the box office revenue did not reach 1 billion yen, and it is said to be the worst film of Mitani’s history.” (Film industry source) Mitani Koki has become the “Emperor’s New Clothes”!? The reason why “Suomi’s Transformation” has a bad reputation is because of its poor pacing and lack of scene development. “The main scenes in the film are set at home and in the cramped interior of a Cessna. It might be one thing on stage, but this is too dangerous. Anyway, it feels like a very long time. Not a movie worth paying to see. “It’s a work that’s on the edge of being broadcast on free terrestrial TV.” (insider) Why did it end up like this? A Fuji TV insider involved in the production testified that “Mitani became like the emperor’s new clothes.” It seems that Mitani has become such a big name as a writer and director that no one can voice their opinions anymore. “The result was a boring movie. It will forever be remembered as a dark chapter in Mitani’s filmography.” (ibid.) It’s probably best not to talk about Sumio in front of Mitani for a while. Some content has been changed from the November 7th and 14th issues of “Weekly Jitsuwa.”
Japanese films that recreate stage plays have been around for a long time. Ten Kind Japanese is one example. The current generation couldn’t keep up. They should have done The Red Bucket too.
If Suomi hadn’t appeared at the end, it would have been an interesting piece. I guess it’s a common thing with playwrights. I guess he got too excited about actress Masami Nagasawa.
This guy must have written the script and directed everything himself. If that’s the case, it has the same feel as an expensive stage play, so no matter which one you watch, it doesn’t feel like a movie. All the actors are overacting.
This is negative campaigning! I thought it was good and my movie-loving friends gave it high marks, so I think it’s a movie some people will love and some will hate.
