[Photo] Shocking hotel prices hiked to coincide with “excessive” concerts “Vicious price gouging” Sapporo hotel prices skyrocket due to Snow Man concert 《Vicious》 《Sure, it’s a good time to make money, but I think this is a vicious way to inflate prices》 《It’s not the Snow Festival after all》 Hotel prices in Sapporo, where Back Number will be performing on November 9th and Snow Man will be performing on November 9-10th, have skyrocketed, sparking controversy. It is common to find hotels (for two people per night) whose prices have increased by around 100,000 yen compared to the previous week. Furthermore, there are now some private homes that cost over 700,000 yen for two nights. “Price hikes” have been a topic of discussion in the past.
On the internet, there have been cries of dismay about this situation, such as “This is going too far,” “Isn’t it just too expensive no matter how you look at it,” and “They’re taking advantage of us.” The so-called “piggyback price hike,” in which surrounding hotels significantly raise prices to coincide with a popular artist’s event, also caused controversy during the Yuzuru Hanyu ice show in 2022. A hotel in Hachinohe, where the show was held, raised the price of rooms, which normally cost around 5,000 yen per night, to around 100,000 yen. Moreover, after the hotel cancelled the reservation, the price of the room increased. Regarding the recent Sapporo incident, some of the artist’s most enthusiastic fans have said, “It’s within the realms of acceptability as long as it doesn’t end up like with Yuzuru Hanyu, when they booked cheap tickets and then had them cancelled,” and “No matter how expensive the hotels are, if there’s a concert, otakus have no choice but to go.” Meanwhile, people who are not involved with the concert said things like, “When I checked hotels after my business trip, they were so expensive I thought it was a bug” “I’m only going for work, so why…” “Are we just going to drink until the morning?” The prices are probably going up because there is demand, but it’s a real pain for people who happen to be staying on those days. javascript:void(0); javascript:void(0); javascript:void(0);.
This has nothing to do with Johnny’s or anything. The price goes up when there are events or during busy periods. It’s tough if you have to go on a business trip.
I think hotels should be strict about cancellation policies. I’m sure there are people who hold onto their reservations until the last minute for free. Is this off topic?
