Talent Matsuko Deluxe (51) appeared on TV Asahi’s “Matsuko & Ariyoshi Karisome Tengoku” (Fridays 8:00 p.m.) which aired on the 1st. I was shocked to discover why it’s so hard to find the egg section at the supermarket. The program’s theme was “There’s a surprising reason why egg sections are hard to find.” Comedian Hiroiki Ariyoshi said, “Even though I often go to the supermarket, I always lose track of the eggs. They end up in places that can’t be connected by deduction,” Matsuko replied, “Eggs are a blind spot. “It looks like dairy products…or maybe vegetables? I think it’s the meat section because they’re laying chickens…but it’s actually next to the detergent!” she confessed, losing track of things like that. However, in the video, it was said that “The supermarket’s strategy is to deliberately place eggs in a location that is difficult to find. It turns out that the scheme was designed to encourage customers to buy more than they actually needed, by having them wander around the store looking for eggs and end up buying things they didn’t actually need. Upon learning this fact, Matsuko widened her eyes and said, “That’s terrifying… they’re trying to get me to buy something else while I’m still looking…” Ariyoshi was also surprised, saying, “That’s an incredible reason!”
>>1 In drugstores where the egg section cannot be shuffled, the egg section is always located at the diagonal end farthest from the store entrance to encourage customers to walk as far as possible to the egg section and then buy other products.
If it’s a regular supermarket you’ll know, but if it’s a new supermarket you’ll have no idea what’s being sold where, whether it’s the bread section or the prepared food section. I know this is common sense.
>>12 Most of the time, they are not in the food section, or rather in the section near ingredients (vegetables and frozen foods). They are in the instant ramen section, and at my local supermarket, they are at the entrance to the tissue and sanitary product lanes.
It may be that by placing the PS at the front of the game section and forcing it to be displayed face-to-face, other hardware games were pushed further back and not visible.
I laughed when I saw that the carbonated drinks I was looking for on sale were not in the drinks section at all and were instead placed next to the register. Well, I guess that’s how it is.
Also, the discount sticker corners move around frequently in every supermarket lol, so I can understand it being a hassle if people are so keen on them lol.
>>23 I couldn’t find koji amazake in the drinks or condiments section, so I searched around and found it in the pickles section, along with the sake lees.
I can’t remember where the cans of meat sauce, tomato, and white sauce are, so I’m always going back and forth. I also think the dried daikon section is strange.
When I first went shopping at a supermarket, I had to search really hard to buy eggs. They were placed in a cart just for eggs, next to the refrigerators with frozen foods, and I remember thinking, “Why are they placed in a place like this?”
Eggs are usually found on the side of the shelves, somewhere between the vegetable section and the processed food section where tofu and fried tofu are sold.
