40,000 people signed a petition against Matsumoto Hitoshi’s return, revealing strong opposition to sexual violence, following assault allegations in December 2023.
A 23-to-1 difference between those in favor and those against… Matsumoto Hitoshi’s “petition to return to the entertainment industry” reveals an overwhelming rejection of sexual violence. In December 2023, “Weekly Bunshun” reported on Downtown’s Matsumoto Hitoshi’s sexual assault. Matsumoto responded by saying, “This is completely unfounded, so I will fight it.” 》he tweeted on x on January 8th, 2024. Matsumoto took a break from show business, and then filed a lawsuit against the publisher Bungeishunju for 550 million yen in damages and a correction to the article, but 10 months later, on November 8th, it was announced that Matsumoto’s side had dropped the lawsuit. “It appears that Matsumoto’s side has proposed withdrawing the lawsuit. Negotiations lasted several months, and a compromise was reached when Matsumoto expressed his intention to apologize to the woman. “No money was exchanged.” (Entertainment reporter) The reason behind the withdrawal seems to be that Matsumoto wants to “return soon.” “However, due to the nature of the scandal – sexual assault – the hurdles for him to return to television are high. On November 29th, Fuji Television President Koichi Minato explained the current situation at a regular press conference, saying, “Executives from Yoshimoto Kogyo have visited our programming executives and are talking,” and said about Matsumoto’s return to work, “I think it’s difficult to consider it without an explanation from Matsumoto himself (about the series of issues).” Other stations have responded in a similar manner. For these reasons, it is believed that his return will likely be at a Yoshimoto Kogyo theater. I’m also curious about his partner Masatoshi Hamada’s thoughts.” (Entertainment journalist) Meanwhile, how will the fans react? x is filled with posts eagerly awaiting his return, such as “Fans have been waiting for almost a year now,” “It’s already the countdown to Matsumoto-chan’s return,” and “I’m crying out loud at Matsumoto Hitoshi’s return,” but on “change.org,” which touts itself as the “world’s largest online petition site,” a slightly different picture emerges. “#StopMatsumotoHitoshi’sreturn! I am totally against appointing a sexual assaulter. A petition calling for “change to the industry’s tolerance for sexual violence,” has been signed by 43,892 people (as of 14:30 on December 1st) in opposition to Matsumoto’s return. The explanation for the petition includes statements such as, “Sexual assault is a serious violation of human rights,” “This is far too dishonest to be called an apology,” and “It shows no accountability whatsoever.” More in the source.
>>1 There’s no doubt it’s sexual violence But I guess society is fed up with the way he takes an overwhelmingly advantageous position before doing something like that.
>>1 Isn’t change.org a Chinese or North Korean website? If you surveyed Japanese people, the number of people in favor would be about 100 times higher.
Or a little? I guess it’s too late to bring it back now though I guess it doesn’t matter anymore since there’s probably not much demand for it But Kamaitachi should do something about their aggressive push.
I don’t think he needs to hold a press conference or anything like that, but he should explain and apologize to the staff and sponsors of the show he was on himself, instead of leaving it to the Yoshimoto executives.
I know it’s unfounded, but most of the generation that knew Matsumoto in his heyday think he “did it.” And now he’s paying the price for making jokes about it on radio and talk shows.
If the number of people opposed is only 40,000, surely the number of people in favor could easily exceed that if they get serious? Are there no people who are scared and willing to lead the charge?
Even if he holds a press conference, getting angry → out grinning → out reading monotone → out looking haggard and muttering with his head down → out so no matter what he does, it’s impossible for him to come back, right?
>>29 No no no Press conference ↓ You guys are the ones slandering Yoshimoto Kogyo is the victim (the media is also into it and encouraging internet regulations) Disclosure and settlement money festival You guys stay quiet Machan makes a full comeback and it’s a big win There’s this route.
I looked at the petition site, and it seemed like you didn’t have to write your real name, so I think it was a system where one person could cast as many votes as they wanted.
Those in favor of reinstatement don’t sign every single thing, and those against are risking their lives, so that’s the difference because they’re risking their lives lol.
Forcing women to give tribute to a pimp is just like the evil magistrate in a period drama. It’s not normal to put a real evil magistrate on TV and pay him a high fee.
