Nihonbashi Unagi Isejo, a restaurant located inside Keikyu Department Store (Konan Ward, Yokohama), closed at the end of October. Both the restaurant on the 10th floor and the convenience store in the food floor on the basement floor have closed. Between July 24th and 25th of this year, a mass food poisoning incident occurred at the store due to the eel bento and grilled eel that were sold there. 159 people fell ill and, although the causal relationship is unclear, a woman in her 90s also died. The Yokohama City Health Center lifted the store’s business ban on September 11, but according to the department store, the store has not resumed business since then. The company said it continued to offer refunds and other services in-store until the closure. The next store at the site has not yet been decided. A representative from the department store said, “We apologize for the inconvenience. We will strive to prevent a recurrence in the future.” Kanagawa Shimbun | Friday, November 15, 2024, 20:50.
>>14 There’s no such thing as the Keikyu brand. There is only one store. If they had bought Yokohama Sogo and Saikaya all at once, they might have become Tokyu, Seibu, and Hankyu…
I guess they’re scared and have lost all motivation. That’s the kind of mentality that causes food poisoning. They’re sloppy with hygiene and that’s what’s going to happen.
It’s become common for employees not to wash their hands, there’s no process for hygiene management, and the department store’s bigwigs and bosses have probably been affected and forced to leave the store, so please wash your hands properly.
>>23 Even if eel is grilled, it is finished by soaking it in sauce, so if the sauce is contaminated with bacteria it could cause a lot of food poisoning.
It’s better to target eel restaurants that have been in business for about six months rather than long-established establishments that are resting on their laurels and taking their customers for granted.
Oh, it’s a store inside Tokyu. I thought it was that one in Nihonbashi. The main store looks unimpressive from the outside. About 10 years ago there was a fire next door.
