Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru: “I will convey to Trump the importance of Japan-US cooperation” – Nikkei Shimbun
November 20, 2024 6:36 (Updated November 20, 2024 7:31)
[Rio de Janeiro = Miki Rieko] Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru held a press conference for both domestic and foreign visitors in Brazil, where he was visiting, on the evening of the 19th (morning of the 20th Japan time). He said he hopes to maintain close communication with the incoming Trump administration toward stability in the Indo-Pacific region. “I would like to explain that cooperation between Japan and the United States is in the national interests of both Japan and the United States and will contribute to peace in the region,” he said. During his first term (2017-2021), U.S. President-elect Trump pointed out the imbalance in the Japan-U.S. security system and called for Japan to strengthen its defense capabilities. At a press conference, the Prime Minister said regarding the Japan-US alliance, “It is not just in Japan’s interest, or just in the interest of the United States.” He also pointed out that the Japan-US Security Treaty, which stipulates the US’s defense obligation to Japan in Article 5 and Japan’s obligation to provide bases to the US military in Article 6, is “quite unique in the world.” He then explained, “Rather than looking at it one-sidedly, we need to make an effort to understand how it can have a synergistic effect.” He stated that he would like to analyze the Trump administration’s policies and work to build a cooperative relationship. What kind of mistake did you make that your relationship has become so weak that you need to communicate such basic information?

I guess they were trying to threaten him by saying that they would defect to China if he didn’t cooperate, but it had the opposite effect lol
In fact, Trump is treating him even more coldly, and Xi Jinping is looking down on him even more. As a Japanese citizen, I find this no laughing matter.

That’s stupid
It doesn’t change the fact that China is an important country to Japan
Do you think it’s okay to leave a country you personally dislike alone? lol
Are you a child?

Trump said he hates people who you can’t tell what they’re thinking, and Ishiba’s expression is exactly like that, so he’s going to hate him.

There’s no need to say it, the strong bond between Japan and the US is unshakable thanks to our ancestors and our tax payments. If we never resist and just pay as we’re told, America will forgive the existence of a yellow ape on Earth who has defied us in the past.

If they can’t keep the Japanese military headquarters in Washington D.C., then they should just ask the U.S. military in Japan to leave lol.

There’s no way Trump would meet with Xi Jinping after all that diplomacy of bowing down to him. It was former Prime Minister Abe who informed Trump of the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party. Ishihara is completely denying former Prime Minister Abe.

And people who aren’t frank and you can’t tell what they’re thinking are also disliked. But that’s typical of Japanese people. They can be smiling one moment and then betray you the next.

Trump wants to show results with a deal, so he hates ATMs that just dispense money. Japan, which has been such a Biden pusher, is not worth dealing with directly.

Regarding this, Abe thinks that he was “very good at disguising his true feelings,” so much so that even fellow Japanese people had difficulty seeing through him.

There’s no way this way of speaking will convince Trump. It would be better to aim for independence with nuclear weapons.
