*Survey period: July 20th and 21st Mainichi Shimbun opinion poll: Many dissatisfied with government’s handling of “My Number Health Insurance Cards” | Mainichi Shimbun 2024/8/2 11:30 With the transition to “My Number Health Insurance Cards” using My Number cards, the current health insurance cards will be abolished in principle in December of this year. Although it is expected that the move will improve convenience as part of the government’s digitalization initiative, there are also strong voices of opposition due to concerns about information leaks. Are voters’ true feelings hopeful or anxious? However, looking at the free-response responses in a nationwide opinion poll conducted by the Mainichi Shimbun on July 20 and 21, we were surprised to find that criticism of the “government’s approach” was more prominent than that of the My Number insurance cards themselves. The survey was conducted by combining the use of short message service (SMS) functions on mobile phones with answering automated voice questions over landline phones. Of the 507 people who responded by mobile phone, 401 were asked to write their opinions freely about the abolition of current health insurance cards. Looking at the free-form comments, more than half of the responses expressed opposition or concern, but there were also a certain number of responses in support, resulting in a mix of opposition and support. (Omitted) A man in his 60s said, “They say that the My Number card is optional, but they do things like this. I just have no trust in the government,” he lamented. There are high expectations for the digitalization of government administration. However, even though there are transitional measures in place, the abolition of the current health insurance cards will have an impact on people’s lives, so careful explanations and responses are necessary. The biggest obstacle to the widespread adoption of My Number Health Insurance Cards may be distrust of the government. [Nohara Daisuke, Okuma Shingo] *See source for full text.
>>1 In Japan, where the population is declining due to a declining birthrate and aging population, we need to reduce administrative costs through IT. My Number health insurance cards are essential for the digitalization, regardless of whether elderly people can use them, the high implementation costs, or the current usage rate. On the other hand, if even a small amount of paper insurance cards are retained, there will be no point in going digital and it will only be harmful.
In the end, they made it compulsory instead of optional because handing it out just to many people didn’t seem to be very effective. This country, what’s made of this country, is shit. They only think about what is convenient for them. Let’s start a riot.
Is there not enough money for newspapers? When the consumption tax was raised to 10%, there was no criticism at all after it was decided that newspapers would remain at 8%.
>>39 It’s the same as a vaccine. You’re responsible for getting the shot, and you’re also responsible for anything you do with your My Number card. How beautiful lol.
In other words, they conducted a public opinion poll, but the percentage of people opposed was so low that they are just picking out the free-form comments and forcing criticism of the government.
